Oh hey there, I’m Erin!

(TL;DR) I bring my background in personality and behavioral psychology plus 10 years of implementing systems improvement methods in complex organizations to help coaches, freelancers, and solopreneuer-types master the habits, mindset, and systems to create the life they want.

For most of my life I fell into the column of “obedient rule-follower who preferred being told what to do in order to avoid having to make real choices in my life.” While that was adaptive in school and work (“just tell me when to show up, when I can take my 30-minute lunch break, and what you need me to do and I’ll do it!”), I found after many years, that no matter what external milestone I achieved based on what I had been told were the pillars of a happy life, I still felt unfulfilled. It was only when I began understanding the systems that shaped me, that I began to question and uncover who I really was, what I liked, what I cared about, and what I wanted my life and days to look like. While I don’t believe I’ve crossed any sort of “happiness finish line” (or believe there is one) I understand how to use systems thinking as a tool to create space for choice and freedom in my life, regain traction when I drift off course, help my business to grow with me, and adapt as my life changes and I move toward what matters most to me.

My introduction to systems thinking came as an undergraduate student getting a degree in Social Work. The concept of “Person-In-Environment” (PIE) - has played a major role in my understanding of how people’s behavior is shaped by and can be understood in the context of their environment and systems within which they live and operate. I continued on to complete a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology where I deepened my understanding of personality, behavior, and the change process.

As I entered the work world from school, I began working for complex government and healthcare organizations where I facilitated organizational development and process improvement efforts. This work illuminated the inter-related nature between systems, technology, people, and ethics. Structuring systems and workflows in a way that reduced rework and errors, improved efficiency and safety, and led to greater employee and customer satisfaction was incredibly rewarding.

I also believe there are deep ethical implications to the way we set up our systems (both macro and micro). When people’s time, talents, and creativity are lost to inefficient or poorly designed, unstructured systems, we lose the gifts and opportunities of what’s possible and what each of us is here to offer and experience. When individuals are able to bring the best of what they have to the work that matters - innovation, progress, and connections emerge and we all benefit.

When I’m not helping small business owners uncover what matters and design systems that optimize their life, I can be found exploring all the best that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, spending time with my two spaniel-mix rescue dogs, and seeking out all things travel, improv, and yoga. My love of improv and yoga principles continuously shape my awareness of how fundamental and foundational systems create the space for creativity, clarity, and intentional choice in any moment.
